Ceramides
Barrier-strengthening skincare for healthy skin
Imagine the skin's barrier as a brick wall, with skin cells as the bricks and ceramides as the mortar in between. Without sufficient amounts of these lipids, the skin dries out, reacts to everything, and heals more slowly. With the right supplement of these protective fats, the mortar is restored, and the skin can do its job again: protect, retain moisture, and resist external stressors. Skin lacking them is exposed to irritants, loses elasticity, and visibly ages faster. At SKNLÛX, you will find a carefully selected range of barrier-strengthening products from leading K-beauty brands.
Read more about Ceramides
Ceramides are a group of sphingolipids that make up to fifty percent of the skin's lipid content in the stratum corneum and are absolutely crucial for barrier function. There are at least nine types of this substance in the skin, of which types 1, 3, and 6-II are the most studied and commonly found in skincare products. These lipids, together with cholesterol and free fatty acids, form the lamellar ordered structure that controls water evaporation and protects against irritants and allergens. A deficiency of these lipids, which occurs naturally with aging but also with dry skin, eczema, and psoriasis, leads to increased TEWL and increased skin sensitivity. Topical application has been documented to restore barrier function and reduce symptoms in inflammatory skin conditions. In Korean skincare, the substance is combined with cholesterol, hyaluronic acid, and panthenol in therapeutic formulations for deep barrier repair. Regular use results in noticeably softer, more elastic, and healthier skin with significantly improved tolerance to external stressors.
