Tranexamic acid TXA
Brightening for hyperpigmentation
Tranexamic acid is the well-kept secret of skincare for pigmentation, an amino acid derivative originating from coagulation treatment that has proven to be one of the most effective and well-tolerated brightening ingredients for topical application. It inhibits melanin production without causing skin irritation, making it accessible for all skin types, including sensitive and reactive skin that otherwise cannot tolerate stronger brightening alternatives. In Korean skincare, it has become the go-to ingredient for even and radiant skin. At SKNLÛX, you will find a carefully selected range from leading K-beauty brands.

Tranexamic acid inhibits melanin production via a mechanism that differs from tyrosinase inhibitors such as kojic acid and arbutin. The substance blocks the interaction between keratinocytes and melanocytes and reduces the production of prostaglandins and leukotrienes that stimulate melanin synthesis during UV exposure and inflammation. It also inhibits the plasminogen-plasmin system, a signaling pathway linked to melasma and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Clinical studies show that a three to five percent concentration provides significant reduction of melasma and uneven skin tone with 8, 12 weeks of consistent application. Unlike hydroquinone and strong acids, the substance does not cause irritation and is suitable for sensitive skin. In Korean skincare, it is combined with niacinamide, vitamin C, and retinol for full-spectrum brightening. Regular application gradually leads to smoother, clearer, and more radiant skin with visibly reduced dark spots and improved skin tone. Its unique mechanism of action makes the substance complementary to other brightening ingredients, enabling effective and customized combination treatments for individual pigmentation problems and skin types.
